This is a Cultural Festival of the Kagera River Basin and its people. It is a brainchild of Kagera Tourism Development Association (KATODEA) in pursuant of its mission of marketing Kagera Region as a new tourist destination in Tanzania.

The overall objective of KACUFE is to showcase Kagera Region’s eco-tourism potential and reinforce Kagera people’s pride in their culture. This annual celebration will be linked with two of the millennium Development Goals (MDG’s) one of combating HIV/AIDS, second ensuring environmental sustainability. It will also address MKUKUTA a national programe on poverty eradication.

The three-day event will feature traditional foods, drinks, dressing, music, kingdoms and songs. Others are exhibition displays of arts and crafts, traditional games and sports.

KATODEA is set to hold its first KACUFE in Bukoba the capital of Kagera Region from 26th to 28 October 2006 simultaneously with National 2006 World Tourism Day celebration, which is to be held in Bukoba during the same period.

This year’s festival will be preceded by four days of familiarization tours of Kagera’s tourist attractions in all districts ending in Bukoba on 26th October 2006 a day before the festival starts. It is hoped that at the end of the festival, visitors will realize that Kagera Region is host to untold experiences and cultures that are un explored but unique to the country.

Apart from that the event will provide unique marketing opportunity for all industry players.
