The Region has unexploited opportunities in agriculture, fishing (two fishing processing factories are under construction), mining and ranches.

Other potentialities are in horticulture especially for flowers and vanilla.

Furthermore the Region has potentialities in tourism as the numbers of tourists to Kagera Region keep on growing year on year.

The Region has been grouped in the Export Processing Zone. Kemondo Bay and Mutukula at Tanzania / Uganda border will host the EPZ infrastructure.
