Institutions
The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania (ELCT) has a large presence
in Bukoba, including the main office, conference and training centre,
guest house and the Huyawa orphans project (all near the Lake Hotel),
the modern Lutheran Cathedral (on Kashozi Road), the Nyumba ya Vijana
Youth Centre (near the government hospital) and the Bookshop /e-mail café
(on Market street).
Bukoba Town also has several mosques (mostly on Mosque Street, which
also has a Sikh temple), the enormous Mater Misericordia Catholic Cathedral
which is undergoing a slow reconstruction, the Bunena Roman Catholic mission
(near Bukoba Harbor), and many other smaller churches.
Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs)
International organisations in the region include:

- Kagera Developmentand Credit Revolving Fund (KADETFU). Of late KADETFU won the
"Tanzania CSOs Excellence Award 2008" ( known
as The best NGO in Tanzania) basing on Governance Responsiveness, Transparency, Participatory and
Accountability. The criteria that were used to
gauge and identify the Excellent NGO in Tanzania in
2008.
